Personal branding is simply the image/ reputation your create around yourself. Your interactions with the world plays a huge role in just how successful your brand can actually be. Whether you’re searching for a job, or looking to get hired for a brand deal; please believe me when I say you are being watched, researched and evaluated all the time. Your presence online means just as much as it does offline and and what you choose to post will have an effect on who will and won’t want to follow you, work with or hire you.
Most people think that building a brand has to do with just business but ultimately we all have a personal brand; some choose to let let theirs develop on it’s own and others (usually who are looking to start a business, become an influencer, YouTuber etc.) will nourish and build a brand that outlines who they are and what they stand for. That person should be marketing their skills and expertise in a way that is genuine and authentic and engages his or her viewers effectively.
Personal branding used to be having a nice billboard add or quality business cards but it has become so much more than that. Living in a world where the Internet is used for almost everything, the art of personal branding has evolved and is more powerful than ever. #GameChanger Social media, blogs websites and digital portfolios all are ways you can improve or start to build a brand for yourself; how you choose to make yourself stand out matters even more because millions of people are online and where/ how you choose to share your content will determine who your audience will be.
HERE ARE three TIPS FOR BUILDING A GOOD PERSONAL BRAND:
1. BE AUTHENTIC
- Personal branding is about you being yourself, not just posting and doing things that you think will get you views, likes and followers. How you want others to see see you should be aligned with your values, beliefs and actions; having authentic values before trying to establish a personal brand will help you be the most genuine you there is.
2. STAY CONSISTENT ACROSS ALL SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS
- Make sure your branding yourself the same across all platforms; no one has time to figure out your name on Twitter because it’s different on Instagram, make all of your usernames the same so people can locate and connect with you easily.
3. BE PURPOSEFUL
- In everything you do, make sure it has purpose; don’t just post a picture to post something or write a blog post to say you have content. Whether your motivating them to be great, sharing your thoughts on a product , or trying to convert them into clients of your own, your content should be adding value to your audience in some way.
